Courage 5
Class size 4 per class

Courage 5 is an assessment based class. This level is the first in our stroke development level. In order to graduate into this class, children must demonstrate all skills of Courage 4. Children will continue to revise their water safety skills of kicking and paddling, and will begin to learn their freestyle and backstroke arms.
To graduate Courage 5, children must swim 5-10 metres freestyle with controlled arms, performing ‘4 big arms’ before taking a breath, and repeating. In order to focus on correct body position and correct freestyle technique, children are taught catch up ‘tapping hands’ style freestyle. Other skills learnt will be: swim 5 metres backstroke with correct technique; move from a back float to a front float and to a back float again.
Active 2
Class size 5 per class

Active 2 is an assessment based class. In order to graduate into this class, children must demonstrate all skills of Courage 5 to a high level of technical ability. In this level children will be taught to swim 10 metres freestyle with lateral side breathing including a streamline start, with correct body position and technique; swim 10 metres backstroke with correct body position and technique; demonstrate 5 metres survival backstroke kick; and demonstrate breaststroke kick on the side of the pool.
To graduate Active 2 skills must be demonstrated consistently for a minimum of 3 weeks. Children are taught catch up ‘tapping hands’ style freestyle and catch up backstroke, in order maintain a controlled technique.
Active 3
Class size 5 per class
Duration 30min class
Active 3 is an assessment based class. In order to graduate into this class, children must demonstrate all skills of Active 2 to a high level of technical ability. In this level children will be taught to swim 20 metres ‘bilateral breathing’ freestyle using correct technique with correct streamline; swim 20 metres backstroke using correct technique, demonstrate 10 metres breaststroke kick on kick board using correct technique and swim 15 metres survival backstroke using correct technique.
To graduate Active 3 skills must be demonstrated consistently for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Active 4
Class size 5 per class
Duration 30 min class
Active 4 is an assessment based class. In order to graduate into this class, children must demonstrate all skills of Active 3 to a high level of technical ability. In this level children will be taught to swim 40 metres freestyle with correct technique and streamline; swim 40 metres backstroke with correct technique; swim 15 metres breaststroke with correct technique; 5 metres, underwater fly kick and demonstrate 10 metres of a survival stroke.
To graduate Active 4 skills must be demonstrated consistently for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Active 5
Class size 5 per class

Active 5 is an assessment based class. In order to graduate into this class, children must demonstrate all skills of Active 4 to a high level of technical ability. In this level children continue to work on the freestyle and backstroke endurance and will be taught to swim 80 metres continuously using correct stroke techniques:
a) 20 metres freestyle
b) 20 metres breaststroke.
c) 20 metres backstroke and
d) 20 metres survival backstroke or sidestroke
They will also be taught to swim butterfly for 10 metres demonstrating a recognisable stroke and attempt correct breathing technique
To graduate Active 5 skills must be demonstrated consistently for a minimum of 3 weeks.
